Bazirk is a versatile three-piece music ensemble based in Port Elizabeth, offering live entertainment across a wide range of genres. Meet the Musicians

Paul Basel, on electric and acoustic guitar and vocals. Originally from Durban, Paul is a former Drakensberg Boys Choir lead soloist who has been a full-time professional musician since 1990, performing both nationally and internationally.

Dirk Strauss, on acoustic guitar, vocals, and percussion, brings over 30 years of experience and was a founder member of the popular Port Elizabeth band Photograph. Like Paul, Dirk is also a Drakensberg Boys Choir alumnus, adding to the group’s strong vocal foundations.

Eric Mells completes the trio on keyboards and vocals. A seasoned multi-instrumentalist with over 20 years of live performance experience, he adds depth and versatility to the band’s overall sound.

From Duo to Trio

Bazirk was formed in February 2017 by Paul and Dirk as a duo act. Their chemistry and combined musicality quickly established them as a sought-after name in the local scene. In early 2022, Eric officially joined the lineup, bringing his multi-instrumental talents and expanding the group into a trio. Since then, Bazirk has continued to build momentum, becoming even more versatile and dynamic in their performances.

A Favourite on Stage and Off

The band’s reputation has secured them regular bookings for major corporate clients, including Tavcor, Standard Bank, Nashua, and the Spar Group. They are also the official act for the Charles Glass Society. Beyond corporate stages, Bazirk is a familiar name at Port Elizabeth’s favourite live venues, such as The Old Grey, Ziggys Old School, Diaz Club, VP Club, and The Music Kitchen. With their synergy, broad repertoire, and polished professionalism, Bazirk continues to be a go-to act for memorable entertainment.
