Charlton Tobias, with 25 years’ experience as a radio presenter, started his career in 1994 at the Nelson Mandela University of Port Elizabeth campus station, Radio Uppie.
‘Charlie T’ joined the Algoa FM team in 1997, presenting his first weekly show from 9pm to 12pm. He later presented the 6-9pm weekdays slot, and since 2006 become a co-host of the ever popular weekday Breakfast Show between 6am and 9am.
Due to his bubbly personality, and never-say-no attitude, Charlton Tobias has become one of the most well-known and well-loved radio personalities in the Algoa FM broadcast footprint.
Charlton has featured on the SuperSport show during the IPL cricket in South Africa and has appeared on a few seasons of ‘South African Idols’, giving his input and thoughts about contestants during the television show. He has also made a guest appearance on the ‘Voice South Africa’ season 2.
As a professional MC / DJ for corporate events and year end functions, Charlton has had the opportunity to rubbed shoulders with pop stars to the likes of; Westlife, Simply Red, UB40, Celine Dion, Eddy Grant, James Blunt and Josh Groban, while on tour in South Africa.
Not only is Charlie T a charismatic radio and television presenter, he is also a qualified teacher and was headmaster at a private school.
Another passion close to his heart is flying, and in 2008 he started training towards his commercial helicopter pilots licence. Charlton has been involved with martial arts for most of his life and holds a 4th Dan Black Belt in the Art of Atemi – Jitsu.
Charlton Tobias, husband and father of two daughters, has been recognised and awarded as a young business achiever at the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber, Top 40 under 40 awards.
