André van Rooyen, born in Durban into a musical family, started his professional musical career in 1981 as a drummer and vocalist, playing on the Holiday Inn and Southern Sun circuits until 1990.
After spending a period of time in Port Elizabeth, working at SABC as the lead sound engineer, André joined up with renowned guitarist Eric Pow Chong, and later Mark Botha, forming the duo act ‘Back to Basics’. This phenomenal group performed as the headliner act at most of the top venues in and around the Eastern Cape.
With a wealth of experience on stage and behind the sound desk, Andre can ease into any function and event, playing a versatile range of songs from Jazz, Country, Blues to Rock and Modern music.
He can keep a mellow dining crowd relaxed or an upbeat party crowd entertained for hours.
André currently resides in Pretoria, but travels extensively around the Gauteng area and countywide, performing at local venues, corporate events and private functions.
He is a polished, versatile and very professional musician who has entertained many clients such as; ABSA Bank, Volkswagen, Eventmark International and Red Cherry Adventures to name a few.
