Rob Thompson is a talented blues rock guitarist and singer from Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Known for his energetic performances and innovative sound, Thompson has been making waves in the South African music scene.
After studying jazz and classical guitar at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Thompson’s musical talents expanded to include a variety of genres, such as Latin, flamenco, classic rock, rockabilly, folk, pop-rock, and classical Indian music. This versatility has allowed him to collaborate with a wide range of artists and groups.
In 2011, at the age of 23, Thompson embarked on his first tour of the USA, showcasing his skills to audiences across the country and even sharing the stage with the acclaimed American blues legend Ray Fuller.
Influenced by a variety of artists, including Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, and more, Thompson has developed a unique sound that blends classic blues elements with modern influences. His energetic performances and strong vocals have captivated audiences worldwide.
Today, Thompson remains active in the South African music scene, performing in various musical outfits and collaborating with other talented musicians. He has been involved in tribute shows like ‘The Story Of Eva Cassidy’, ‘My Story with the Blues’, and the ‘Amy Winehouse The Diva & her Demons’ show, alongside Kerry Hiles and Kristo Zondagh in the band Misery Loves Company. Additionally, he is a member of the popular Latin American band Ciao Bella and a Spanish guitar trio called Las Tres Leyendas, featuring Justin Horn and Tiago Vital.
